Diakonie (“Deaconry“) – Gracebook
Despite the rapid growth of social networks, and the fact that the majority of the population spends more and more time on the internet, social problems in the real world remain:
In former times, you might encounter a homeless person between the electronics shop and the drugstore – nowadays, you don’t encounter anyone between eBay and Amazon.
Gracebook fills this gap and raises awareness for the issue of homelessness in a contemporary way on Facebook, currently the largest social community: “With Gracebook, you can use your profile to provide accommodation for a homeless person. The Diakonie translates this virtual gesture into action, providing immediate help in the real world.”
Gracebook gives the users the chance to host one or more homeless people on their profile. But this gesture is not only a purely symbolic act, it results in real help. For each bed, the user donates 5 cents to the Diakonie. The Diakonie then uses the donated money to improve the situation for homeless people.
